Oli Bhattacharya, born on the 9th of October 1964 to Kalpana Bhattacharya and Deepak Bhattacharya, is a Hindustani Classical Vocalist. Being brought up in the heart of Kolkata, Oli’s father was the first source of rigorous training in classical music for her and her elder sister. From the tender age of four, she was immersed in the world of music and soon qualified to perform as a child artist for the All India Radio and Doordarshan, Kolkata. Her professional training started with learning Nuzrul Sangeet under Sideshwar Mukhopadhyaya. Subsequently, she moved on to training under the world renowned guru, Pandit Amiya Ranjan Bandhopadhyaya. His training and guidance have not left her still and she is his regular disciple to this day. Son of the legendary Sangeetacharya Satyakinkar Bandopadhyaya, Pandit Amiya Ranjan Bandhopadhyaya is the scion of the Bishnupur Gharana.
She is the recipient of the Government of India’s Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme (1977), and has secured a bachelor’s and master’s degree in classical music (Khayal) from Rabindra Bharati University. She has held several state and national level awards and was an active performer at All India Radio, Delhi for several years.
Her forte is singing Khayal and Bhajan. She is currently a senior music teacher at a government school in Delhi.
